Tolworth Girls’ School will be closed down until February 10 after a fire destroyed a building on the school site early this morning.
Nobody was hurt in the blaze as London fire crews from New Malden, Surbiton and Kingston were quickly on the scene to put out the flames.
Head-teacher of the school, Siobhan Lowe, said: “We discovered the fire this morning just after five o’clock.
“The site manager came on site and saw that the building was on fire.
“The fire brigade were here really quickly and we’d really like to thank the New Malden and Surbiton crew who arrived on the scene straight away and have been absolutely fantastic.”
The temporary building which is located in the school playground will be caged off while the building is secured and students can expect to return to school on Monday February 10.
Ms Lowe reminded all parents and students on Radio Jackie that students would be sent work via email so that their studies were not affected by the temporary closure.
This is the second fire on the school site this week after a bin caught alight in a classroom on Monday morning.
