A record number of new businesses opened or were founded in Kingston over the summer, according to new figures. <--break->“>

The town saw 88 new business registrations in May, and 86 new businesses open in June – the largest number of new business since 2009.

Peter Valaitis, managing director of Duport.co.uk, which produced the report, said: “Kingston Upon Thames has escaped the worst effects of the recession. Our report does show a sharp dip in company registrations and a rise in company closures in 2009, but figures have been improving steadily since then.”

Mr Valaitis added: “Excellent local facilities and its proximity to central London have made it a highly desirable place to live, and therefore it has become a highly desirable place to do business.”

Kingston First have stated that there are several new businesses opening up in the near future, including; Joules, Schuh, Foot Asylum, Las Iguanas and Tantrum.

The report suggested that Kingston has remained prosperous in the face of tough economic conditions because of its healthy property market, excellent shopping centre and great transport links.

Duport’s findings compliment July’s report by Experian Property Check which suggests Kingston is one of the top ten places to live in London. It seems that Kingston is a greatly sought-after place to both live and work. This report brings great news for businesses in Kingston, considering the country’s weak economy.
