Kingston Council cuts some services in light of coronavirus

Kingston Council has announced that several services will be closed or reduced to allow staff to focus on more critical services and help protect the vulnerable.

Leisure centres, youth centres and Kingston Museum are among a number of services that will be cut in order to free up resources elsewhere.

Leader of Kingston Council Liz Green said in a statement: “We are doing everything we can to keep critical services running.

“However, this does mean that some services will need to stop or be run in different ways to free staff up to deliver services for vulnerable people.”

Libraries across Kingston will be closed from Friday 20th March with all events and activities cancelled, though the library service has created an online tutorial that demonstrates how to borrow e-books and online resources.

“These changes will enable us to keep the core services of the council running and support the people who need us most,” said Councillor Green.

The council has suspended their resident newsletter and is now posting regular updates on its website.
