Educating Rita, which re-opened The Rose theatre in October, will return to Kingston in February 2021.
The award-winning production starring Stephen Tompkinson and Jessica Johnson, which closed early due to the second lockdown, has been rescheduled for February 23-27.
Producer David Pugh said: “It’s unfinished business as, when Educating Rita opened at the Rose Theatre in October for a three-week run, we garnered rave reviews and standing ovations from audiences but, of course, then the government closed us down.
“We are returning as we don’t want to disappoint everyone who booked and wasn’t able to see this production, and by adding performances it means more people can now come as well.”
Covid-secure venue
The Rose Theatre is a covid-secure venue and See it Safely approved.
Face masks are mandatory in the theatre and temperature checks completed for all guests on arrival. Other provisions include additional signage and sanitiser stations.
Audiences will be socially distanced in the auditorium, with tickets available for households and support bubbles only.
Educating Rita tells the story of Rita Johnson, a working-class woman who enrols on an Open University course where she meets frustrated poet and alcoholic academic Frank Tompkinson.
She helps to refresh his love of teaching, and together they realise how much they have to learn from each other.
