Royal Star & Garter has named its ground floor in honour of former resident Captain Gary Anglin, seven years after his death.

At just 18, Gary joined the 1st Battalion The Queen’s Regiment and served 42 years. During his time in the military he completed eight tours of Northern Ireland, he also served in Germany, Gibraltar and Cyprus.

His daughter Marsha said: “Dad felt welcomed from the moment he entered the home, and I know he appreciated the love and support he received.”

Royal Star & Garter is a charity that provides care for veterans and their partners who live with disability or dementia. Soon after retiring in 2014 Captain Anglin was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour, following this diagnosis he moved into Royal Star & Garter until his death, aged 61.

Helena Maher, the Home Manager at Surbiton, said: “Gary was a much-loved resident here and many staff still fondly remember him.”
