Two vehicles were involved in a collision outside Kingston University at approximately 08:35 on Wednesday.
Bystanders watched as a woman was treated by paramedics at the side of the road.
The collision appeared to be between an Asda van and car. Police and emergency services were on the scene within minutes of the collision.
Traffic on Penrhyn Road was stopped by police but the road was opened shortly after.
This caused problems for morning commuters as well as buses which were full of university students trying to get to their classes on time.
A Kingston university student studying politics and international relations said: “I was on a bus that had almost reached my stop before the accident happened. The bus driver wouldn’t open the doors to let us off so I ended up being 15 minutes late for my lecture.”
