Kingston Charitable Foundation is launching its Giving Week with a pub quiz and raffle to raise more donations for children living in poverty.
Every donation made between November 29 and December 5, will be doubled, thanks to a pledge from the Rowan Bentall Charitable Trust to match fund donations.
The CEO of Kingston Charitable Foundation (KCF) Hicky Kingsbury said: “Christmas is usually a magical time for children. Yet the 5,733 children in Kingston who live in poverty will be expecting another bleak mid-winter.”
According to data published by Action for Children, 20.2% of minors in Kingston and Surbiton were from households whose annual income was below 60% of the national average in 2021/22.
“Together we can make a profound difference to people who need our help most, and create a future filled with hope and care for our community in Kingston,” Kingsbury said.
Local residents and businesses can donate online via Localgiving. UK taxpayers can also add Gift Aid to further boost donations by an additional 25%.
People can also support the appeal by taking part in the hamper raffle. The price is £5 per ticket with 100 tickets available.
The winner will be announced at Christmas Wishes Pub Quiz, which will take place at the Boaters Inn, Canbury Gardens, from 8pm on November 28, to mark the start of the Giving Week.
The event is supported by the Kingston Chamber of Commerce as one of their Charity of the Year fundraisers.
Beside a financial contribution, people can also buy an actual present and leave it at the donation station.
Last year, grants provided by KCF helped more than 25,000 individuals dealing with mental health issues, food poverty, hardship and other challenges.
