Richmond Council has promised that all armed forces veterans will get a job interview if they apply for a job at the council under a new scheme starting this week.
The Guaranteed Interview Scheme for veterans is designed as a leg-up for former armed forces individuals who might otherwise struggle to get past the initial application stage when applying for jobs.
“This new scheme will help them get back into civilian life and will enable the council to benefit from the skills and life experience of men and women who have served their country with dignity and honour,” said councillor Michael Butlin.
The council has said the scheme aims to help veterans overcome barriers to finding civilian employment and reduce the risk of health and welfare problems that can occur as a result of long term unemployment.
The interview does not guarantee a job but the council has confirmed it will offer an interview to any veteran who meets the minimum criteria for the post.
A veteran is any individual who has served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces for any length of time.
To apply for a role at Richmond Council under the scheme visit the council’s recruitment page and declare your veteran status in your application.
