Kingston’s Mayor has shown a more light-hearted approach to politics after a video emerged of him dancing at a charity event.
The video, uploaded to the Mayor’s Facebook page on 28 April, showed Councillor Roy Arora boogieing to Michael Jackson’s 1983 hit ‘Billie Jean’.
A caption posted alongside the clip appeared to challenge the dancing skills of other officials in the area.
It said: “Hey guys, Wandsworth Council, Surrey County Council, Sutton Council, London Borough of Richmond upon Thames – our Mayor is better than yours.”
The annual event attended by Arora was hosted by the Mayor’s Charitable Trust, which this year is supporting Kingston Hospital Charity Dementia Appeal.
Local residents seemed impressed by the Mayor’s moves.
Nicola Salmon, of Albert Road, Kingston, said: “I think it’s funny. It shows he has a sense of humour and isn’t just a boring politician.”
Councillor Arora was appointed mayor on 19 May 2015 and is a Conservative representative of the Coombe Vale Ward.
