England’s 2021 T20 World Cup campaign begins on Saturday with a difficult game against the reigning champions West Indies in Dubai.
The two sides’ last fixture in this tournament was the final in 2016 when England’s hopes and dreams were shattered by big hitting West Indies batsman Carlos Brathwaite.
Brathwaite hit four sixes in the final over to win the game and tournament for West Indies. England will be hoping for a different outcome in this game.
The 2021 International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup began on Sunday 17 October in Oman and the United Arab Emirates. There are eight teams currently competing for four places in the Super 12 where they will join the top eight ranked teams in the world.
England are in group 1 with three other teams ranked in the top eight; Australia, South Africa and West Indies. Joining those from the preliminaries are the winners of group A and the runners-up of group B.
England are expected to make it out of their group and advance to the semi-finals along with three other teams, one more from group 1 and the other top two teams in group 2.
England go into the tournament ranked as the number one T20 side in the world. However, it is India who are favourites to take home the trophy going into the tournament.
England are second favourites with the bookmakers but the team will be hoping to go one better this year and bring back the second title for England in this competition.
