UBX opens one of Kingston’s most expensive gyms at £180 per month

UBX boxing gym officially opened their third London location in Kingston last month, and despite high prices, spaces are already limited at the global brand’s new site.

Memberships at UBX start at £180 per month, a cost that dwarfs other gyms in the area, with PureGym starting at £25.99 per month, the Gym Group at £19.99, and Anytime Fitness at £41.25.

“It’s a very unique product, there isn’t anything quite like this on the market,” said Nick Hirst, General Manager at UBX. “If you’re coming in three times a week it’s very much value for money, it’s a place where you feel you want to go.”

Despite the higher-than-average fees, there are very few spaces left with memberships capped at 300 to avoid overcrowding, said Hirst.

“This has been something that is really missing in Kingston, that’s what a lot of local residents have said as well.” Hirst added: “I just want people to come in and see what we’re about, a majority of the people that have joined love it.”

UBX’s month-to-month rolling subscription equals that of competitor F45 Training at £180, although F45 has longer term subscriptions available at a cheaper rate.

Local gym users had a mixed response to UBX’s price tag, with PureGym regular Ryan Paul saying: “£180 a month for the gym? That’s ridiculous.”

Zac Crawley, member of Anytime Fitness, agreed that the membership fees were far “too much”, but also added that “there’s room” for a gym like UBX in Kingston.

PureGym member Mia Shead also said that she would not pay higher membership fees. She said of her current gym: “This has everything I need”.

The Australian based company, co-founded by four-time boxing world champion Danny Green has opened hundreds of gyms across the world since its foundation in 2016, and continue to expand its UK operations.
