The most popular Halloween costumes in Kingston this year

The spooky season is upon us, which means one thing. It’s time to see which of this year’s blockbuster films and pop-culture moments will make their way into the top Halloween costumes.

We visited Kingston’s costume shops for the lowdown on the classic creepy costumes, and pop-culture trends that we should expect to see this year.

  1. Beetlejuice

The most popular theme for Halloween this year, according to costume shop Krish on Eden Street, takes inspiration from a Hollywood hit. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the remake of the 1988 classic movie, was released in cinemas in September and starred Michael Keaton, Wynona Ryder and Jenna Ortega. Expect to see lots of striped suits and green wigs on Kingston’s streets this year!

In a hurry or not sure what to wear? The Scream ghost face costume requires minimal preparation, and is guaranteed to make an appearance at any Halloween party. Head down to Partica costume shop on Fife Road to get this perfect last-minute option.

Another low-effort costume that has become a Halloween staple is the convict jumpsuit. Costume shop Partica named it one of their best-selling Halloween costumes this year. Simple, easy and effective, the prison jumpsuit is a good option to have in the wardrobe, and can be worn year-on-year.

  1. Sexy Policewoman

Local costume shop Partica also named the sexy policewoman outfit as a standout favourite this year. The costume shop also stock props including handcuffs, black aviator sunglasses and police badges. Suitable for both men and women, this option works well as a couples’ outfit, and can help ensure that law and order are being enforced in Kingston this Halloween.

  1. Squid Game

Be ahead of the trends this Halloween with a costume inspired by Netflix’s hit show Squid Game. Although this was a popular option when the show was first released in 2021, the second season set to make a comeback this Christmas. Expect to see the brightly coloured jumpsuits and creepy masks make a return to Halloween costumes too.
