It has been revealed that one of the Sri Lankan terrorists spent time studying at Kingston University.
Abdul Lathief Jameel Mohamed spent a year at Kingston studying Areospace engineering from 2006 to 2007 before moving to Australia for a post graduate course, according to press reports.
Kingston council leader Cllr Liz Green was saddened by the recent devastating church and hotel attacks in Sri Lanka that happened on Easter Sunday.
Approximately 300 people including Britons are thought to have died the most deadly terror attacks since the country’s civil war in 2009.
Green said on Easter Sunday “I am shocked and saddened to hear about the events in Sri Lanka this morning and my thoughts are with all of those who have been affected by these terrible events.
“We are proud of our diverse and multicultural borough and will be working with the Kingston Interfaith Forum and other local partners to reassure our community here in Kingston.”
Kingston is twinned with Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka, so news like this hits home for many in the borough.
Kingston’s second most spoken language is Tamil (1.7% speak it in Kingston) as the Sri Lankan community is the second largest in Kingston, making up 2.20% of the town population.
