Watch: London marchers call for an end to male violence against women

Thousands of women marched through London for the 18th Million Women Rise March and Rally, demanding an end to male violence against women and girls.

On International Women’s Day, Million Women Rise (MWR) once again took to the streets in what the organisation called a demonstration of sisterhood, solidarity and unity, calling for urgent action to tackle gender-based violence.

Led by Black women and open to all women, the movement aimed to highlight the need for change.

With one in four women experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault in the UK, campaigners stressed that not enough was being done to address the crisis.

MWR representative Kafayat Okanlawon, curator and editor of This is Us: Black British Women and Girls, said: “Million Women Rise is an intersectional organisation that comes to the streets every year to shout, to scream, to dance, to stand in solidarity as sisterhood with all women and girls across the world to end violence against women and girls.”

Campaigners urged continued action to build a future where women and girls can live free from violence and fear.
