Mortlake residents gathered to plant native tree saplings to celebrate Mother’s Day.
The event was run by the charity Heritage & Habitats as part of its Burton: Exploring Without Boundaries project, which aims to restore the tomb of the explorer Sir Richard Burton and his wife Lady Isabel.
Community members were invited to plant a variety of native tree species in the churchyard at St Mary Magdalen Church, where the Burton Mausoleum is located.
Labels were provided for attendees to write Mother’s Day messages to place next to their saplings.
The charity hopes the hedgerow will encourage greater biodiversity.
