Kingston Council launched their winter service programme last month with 1,200 tonnes of salt gathered and six gritters put on standby.
Salt bins have been filled around the borough and winter weather road equipment prepared.
Councillor Terry Paton, cabinet member with responsibility for transport and highways at Kingston Council, said: “It is our duty as a council to make sure that local people can travel safely in the winter months.”
Kingston Council is also calling for resident volunteers to help clear snow from the streets over the winter.
“After a successful trial in the south of the borough, we are calling on the help of community-minded volunteers to become ‘Snow Friends’ and help with gritting and snow clearing during winter months,” said Mr Paton.
In a later statement he added: “Training only takes an hour, and we will deliver tools and grit to volunteers’ homes in late November. Many residents have told us that this is something they do anyway, which is fantastic, so any additional support is greatly welcomed.”
