Flames outshine Stars 4-3 for their fourth win in a row

GUILDFORD, 15 MARCH — Guildford Flames kept their winning streak alive to beat the Dundee Stars 4-3 at the Spectrum on Sunday in an Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) game, seeing Tyler Busch score one and assist three goals.

Busch, after assisting twice before, got a goal of his own in the 30th minute. The Canadian forward powerfully shot the puck past an unlucky Emil Kruse in a hectic second period to make it three to the home team.

Paul Dixon, head coach for the Guildford Flames, said: “We are happy that as Dundee pushed back we were always able to just take a step ahead and eventually bank the points.”

American defenceman Charlie Curti gave the Flames an early lead in the first period, after Canadian nationals Busch and Marcus Tesink found Curti in the fourth minute to slot it into the bottom of the net past Stars goaltender Kruse.

Widening the gap, 2025 summer signing Tyler Preziuso slotted home his first goal for the team in the 13th minute after the puck fell loose and landed at his feet. In his wake, Preziuso left Kruse unable to cross the net in time, giving Busch his second assist of the night.

Stars defenceman Dyrdn Dow scored twice in the second period, shooting the puck past Fazio in the 33rd minute for his ninth goal of the season for the Scottish side, and again in the 37th minute for a power-play goal.

“We were more dominant in the 1st period [more] than perhaps we were later in the game,” said Dixon.

The Stars pulled it back in the second period, with a goal only 50 seconds in. Following play from Canadian Bradley Schoonbaert, fellow North American Matthew Boudens pushed the puck past Justin Fazio in the 21st minute.

In his 119th game for the Flames, forward Ethan Strang took his team further in the 34th minute with a strong shot past Kruse, assisted by Jack Jacome, and for his third assist of the match, Busch.

The Flames sit in sixth place and will now be preparing for a game on the road against Manchester Storm on Saturday 21st March.
