Flames torch Stars 8-1 for dominant victory

GUILDFORD, 30 NOV – Guildford Flames’ Cole Ully, Jack Jacome and Josh Nixon scooped two goals each into the back of the net against the Dundee Stars on Sunday for a 8-1 win in an Elite Ice Hockey League campaign.

Following an assist from defenceman Jamal Watson, Ully snapped the puck into the back of the net in the 19th minute on a power play, which gave the home side a 2-0 lead and added another to his tally in the 30th minute to make it 4-0 to the Flames in a dominant second period display.

“We are obviously a lot happier with that result,” said Paul Dixon, head coach for the Flames. “[The guys were] able to execute and generate a very much needed win.”

Despite pressure throughout the entirety of the game, the Dundee Stars pulled it back in the 59th minute, with Keanu Yamamoto netting a goal to give the Stars a small attempt at retaliation.

To put the Flames ahead, Jake Coughler netted a sharp shot with an assist from Seitz in the twelfth minute, breaking the deadlock and putting the Flames out front in the first period.

Right winger Nixon netted a power play goal in the 21st minute after a deflected attempt in the first period, where he skated around four players and took a shot on goal that was saved by Dundee’s Emil Kruse.

In a power play run in the 35th minute, Nixon netted another after finding the rebound, following a missed initial shot from Joshua Waller, which fell back to the Canadian forward who pushed it over the scoreline to widen the gap.

“Friday was not a good night at Cardiff, and I am sure [the] guys were itching to get right back to it,” said Dixon after the match.

Canadian forward Jacome was eager to add his name to the scoresheet, netting a goal in the 37th minute after fast-paced play, then doubling that only one minute later after curling a neat shot into the back of the net.

First line left winger Nick Seitz finished the flurry of goals with a tap in off his skate in the 45th minute on a delayed penalty goal from Coughler and Charlie Curti, immediately preceding the departure of an injured Stars net-minder Jarrett Fiske, who was subsequently replaced.

Following this win, the Flames remain in seventh with 14 points and prepare for their next game at home on Saturday against the Fife Flyers.
