Surrey Football Association have opened a recruitment process for an ‘anti-discrimination panel’, nationally approved by the Football Association.
Members of the panel will seek to combat instances of discrimination in English football, while promoting the greater inclusion of multiple communities across the game.
Ray Ward, CEO of the Surrey County FA, said: “We are looking for a diverse group of committed individuals across the country with a variety of backgrounds and to be reflective of the local community and local football teams.”
Surrey’s new initiative falls within English Football’s Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination Action Plan, backed by the FA.
The purpose of the campaign is to ‘bring together varied stakeholders from across the game with a comprehensive plan to promote inclusion and tackle discrimination in all its forms.’
Ironically, the Surrey FA’s launch has occurred under the backdrop of the FA being accused of a lack of diversity through its organisation.
An FA commission, set up this month, to investigate potential improvement in English football, has a panel of 10 members, of whom none are female and only one is an ethnic minority.
Notable figures in English football, including Gary Lineker, Sol Campbell and Heather Rabbatts, have slammed the FA’s selection process.
