A former Kingston University student has revealed her “delight” at making the Miss Caribbean UK finals.
Property negotiator Neesha Robinson, 23, will compete for the coveted crown on December 5 2015 at the Shaw Theatre in Camden.
Neesha, who graduated from Kingston in 2014 with a BA Hons in Dance, Media & Cultural Studies, said: “I’m delighted to be representing Jamaica in this competition. It’s where my grandparents are from.
“The nerves are really starting to kick in but I’m just going to enjoy the experience and not worry about the result.”
A Crystal Palace cheerleader for the last four years, Neesha, now living in Warlingham, Surrey, is competing against 16 other contestants in the pageant final, which is designed to “promote all of the different Caribbean countries under one umbrella”.
Neesha had to pass a selection and semi-final stage in order to reach the grand-finale of the competition.
The winner will receive £1,500, the chance to visit the Caribbean country they represent and a £1,000 designer evening gown.
A statement on the official website, www.misscaribbeanuk.com, said: “The event uses pageantry to promote, unify, inspire, educate, entertain and celebrate the historical and cultural impact of the Caribbean within the United Kingdom.”
Neesha – who was a finalist in Miss England 2014 and won Miss Afro Beauty 2014 – will be wearing a “beautiful” dress inspired by fashion icon Marilyn Monroe, which was specially designed for the event by Vinnette Grant of Unbridaled Couture.
