Free cinema screening of new film Layla in Kingston next week

Escapes, an exciting independent cinema project, returns to Kingston this week with a screening of the new British film Layla – for free.

Escapes has teamed up with 150 independent cinemas, including Curzon Kingston, to showcase a free preview of the film on the 11th of November at 6pm, ahead of its official UK release date later this month.

This month’s featured film is the highly anticipated comedy romance Layla- the debut from director Amrou Al-Kadhi, featuring a cast of stars including Bilal Hasna, Louis Greatorex, Self Esteem, Emma Mcdonald and many more.

Set in and around East London’s iconic drag clubs, the film follows the story of a British Palestinian drag queen who falls into a journey of self-discovery – exploring the complexity of aligning beliefs within modern relationships.

The Escapes project, supported by the British Film Institute (BFI), offers free tickets to previews of upcoming independent films, in order to build new audiences and increase cinema engagement.

The BFI awards National Lottery funding to the Escapes project, and is the UK’s lead organisation for film.

All Escapes screenings of Layla will be shown with descriptive subtitles onscreen, as a part of the BFI’s aim to make cinema more accessible.

Free previews for new films are announced every month. Screenings within the past year have included Timestalker, The Queen of My Dreams and Kneecap.

Tickets for the screening of Layla on 11 November are available here.
