Ian Thomas has been selected as Kingston Council’s new chief executive officer (CEO), taking over from interim CEO Roy Thompson who had been holding the position since July.
With over thirty years of experience in local government, including senior leadership roles at Derbyshire County and Trafford Metropolitan councils, Thompson will now lead a team of five directors aiming to improve Kingston.
He said: “I am incredibly excited about heading up the staff team at The Royal Borough of Kingston, a vibrant outer London borough, with such a rich heritage.
“I am looking forward to being part of a movement, which will see the development of a better Kingston for all residents and visitors.”
Leader of the Council, Cllr Liz Green, added: “Ian’s local government knowledge and expertise, particularly in relation to children’s services, makes him the right person for the job.”
“We know that our challenging financial position means there are some tough decisions ahead. I have no doubt that Ian’s dynamism and skills will help guide us through this, and together, we will ensure the council produces the best results for all of Kingston’s communities.”
A handover period with interim CEO Roy Thompson is set to take place – he will remain supportive of the council’s strategic leadership team until his departure.
