Kingston council and the Bentall centre have joined forces to improve disabled facilities in Kingston with plans to install the area’s first changing places service toilet.
The plan is to install the toilet by the summer and the decision to do so was in part down the Bentall Centre manager.
Sam Eastwood, Bentall Centre director, said: “For us, an important part of development is to ensure the centre is accessible and comfortable for all to use.”
The new changing places toilet will be equipped with a height adjustable changing table, wash hand basin, privacy screen and ceiling hoist.
Kingston council is pleased to be involved in the initiative that should make shopping in Kingston even more accessible to the disabled.
Councillor Liz Green, Leader of Kingston council, said: “It’s wonderful to see the Bentall Centre install the changing places toilet. It’s another step in the right direction for Kingston as we look to make the borough as accessible and inclusive for all our residents and visitors as possible.”
