Kingston parking wardens strike over pay continues this month

Dispute continues as members of GMB union strike in South London.

The streets of Kingston were affected by five days of industrial action from Monday 3 to Friday 7 February, with wardens striking against parking company APCOA.

Alex Etches, GMB Regional Organiser, said: “Kingston traffic wardens are taking strike action for recognition of their union and for a pay rise that helps them meet the ever-rising cost of living.”

The strike took place as part of an ongoing dispute, with parking wardens also taking action in December 2024.

Etches said that APCOA have refused to put any offer to its workers that would take them above their current rate of £13.15 per hour but have paid for employees to travel in to cover the work of striking traffic wardens.

He added: “APCOA offer nothing to the taxpayers of Kingston other than pocketing money that should be going to the people who actually run the service, the workers.”
