A local councillor has been appointed disability champion as part of Kingston’s ‘All age learning disabilities’ strategy.
Lib Dem Chessington South councillor Christine Stuart is to become the advocate for residents with disabilities of all ages, who live in the borough.
She said: “It is an honour having been chosen to champion this cause. I understand the many challenges that those with disabilities and their families face, and I believe it is our responsibility to make sure that they have a say in decisions which affect them.
“People with disabilities, their families and carers will benefit from more flexible, integrated and responsive services, empowering people to remain as independent as possible by accessing the right level and type of support when they need it.”
She will work alongside communities and local groups in a bid to “further understand the needs and ensure that their voices are represented,” said Cllr Liz Green.
Her appointment will be confirmed on December 11.
