Kingston’s Christmas lights were switched on as hundreds gathered along Clarence Street to join in with the countdown and witness the star-shaped lights sparkle overhead.
Performances from local dancers and the cast of Rose Theatre’s Snow Queen as well as a speech from Kingston’s mayor, Margaret Thompson, paved the way to the light’s being switched on at 6.00pm.
Local student Aaron Nejad said: “I’m very excited to see the lights. Me and my family come every year – there’s a great atmosphere.”
The crowd counted back from ten in unison before confetti, excited cheers and Slade’s Merry Christmas welcomed the light’s illumination.
