Streatham MP Chuka Umunna has claimed that only two options are left to prevent crashing out of the EU without a deal: to revoke article 50 or to call a second referendum.
“Ultimately, if we are faced with the prospect of falling out, of crashing out – which is totally possible in the next two weeks – then you either revoke or you refer it back to the people,” he said at the People’s Vote march. “There are only two ways to stop no deal.”
Umunna, a former Labour MP and founder member of parliament’s new Independent Group, also called on Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to back what Labour party members’ have “demanded” and support a referendum.
Labour students followed closely behind The Independent Group, but refused to comment on the absence of the Labour leader.
