The victory takes Chelsea straight through to the quarter finals, Wolfsburg are faced with a play-off match against Juventus or Real Madrid
Chelsea scored twice in a comeback win to beat Wolfsburg 2-1 away in the Women’s UEFA Champions League at AOK Stadium on Wednesday, 17 December.
A header from Sam Kerr in the 64th minute secured the win for Chelsea, after the Australian Striker nodded Johanna Kaneryd’s cross into the top-left corner of the net, following a goal from a corner in the 45th minute for Lucy Bronze just before half time.
However, Wolfsburg did not make it easy for Chelsea. The German side were dominant for much of the first half with club legend Alexandra Popp hammered the ball in for a goal in the 16th minute, following a poor clearance from Chelsea goalkeeper Livia Peng to the feet of Janou Levels.

In a pre-match press conference Chelsea captain Millie Bright said: “We’re motivated to win every game regardless of statistics. Wolfsburg is a very difficult place to come and a hard team to play against, but this is the Champions League — you have to play the best teams.
“There are no easy games in this competition. We’ll stay focused on our game plan, execute it, and aim to get the three points with a strong performance.“
The home team had several near-misses from top-scorer Lineth Beerensteyn and Vivien Enderman who hit the crossbar in injury time.
However, strong defending from Lucy Bronze and a fingertip save from Peng kept Wolfsberg from adding to the final result.
The win for Chelsea is a big one, marking the first time an English side has beaten Wolfsburg on their home turf. The last time the two teams played, Wolfsburg thrashed Chelsea 4-0.
Bright said: “As a defender, you want to play against the best. Alexandra Popp has been an incredible player for Wolfsburg and Germany for many years. She’s a leader and a key player who brings a lot of threat.
“These are the challenges you relish, and she’s certainly one of the best.”
The Blue’s next opponent will be revealed in the UWCL draw on Thursday, 18 December. They will begin their Subway Cup journey against Liverpool on Sunday, 21 December.
