A planning proposal that put a community garden in Kingston at risk has been rejected by Kingston Council.
Plans to demolish the former care home Fiddlers Green, Shalston Villas, to make way for a development of flats would have impact wildlife and community conservation efforts, local residents said.
Alpha Road Residents Association Secretary Claire Mellish spoke to Kingston Courier about the collaborative garden that sits opposite the building, which she said would have been affected if the planning application was approved.
Mellish emphasised that plans to remove a newly planted pear tree and other fruit trees in the area as part of the housing development threatened local wildlife by blocking up vital pollination networks.
