Kingston Grammar School has been reaping the rewards with ten of their Upper Sixth students qualifying for offers from leading universities Oxford and Cambridge.
The students who represent almost 10 per cent of the year group said that they owe their success to the school, are excited to get started this next academic year.
Anthony Fitzgerald, director of careers and universities at the school said he was glad the school’s well-rounded education could provide the students with a stepping stone into the Oxbridge universities. He said: “The students have done extremely well.
“This is a great achievement for these particular students, and very much down to their hard work and absolute enthusiasm for their respective subject areas.”
The students who have secured offers to Cambridge are Yiorgos Karidis who hopes to study history, Zoe Samama who plans on reading law and Toby Fairhurst who said the school was pivotal in his choice to study geography.
Those who have offers at Oxford University include Hamza Ahmad who hopes to read Biology, Max Cairney-Leeming to study Maths and Computer Science, Reuben Cooper to read Classics, Ellena Eley who want to study Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, Joe Young to read Chemistry, Katie Orrell to study Geography and Amelia Petersen who is pleased to be offered a place studying History.
Head Master Stephen Lehec commented: “Our students have worked incredibly hard and their success is well deserved. I am also very pleased for the staff who have worked closely with them over the past few years, instilling an intrinsic love of learning in their respective disciplines. It’s also important to remember that all our Upper Sixth students will not only succeed academically but that they have all made exceptional contributions to the School and the wider community during their time at Kingston Grammar School.”
