VANDALS set fire to part of a local children’s playground over the weekend, forcing its temporary closure during the Easter break.
Richmond Borough Council reported that the toddler’s area of the playground in Ham, London was intentionally set on fire, causing damage to its safety surfacing and equipment.
The Sandy Lane playground was also covered with very offensive graffiti, causing distress to many children and locals.
Cllr Pamela Fleming, Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “Sandy Lane is a popular park and the actions of these mindless vandals have ruined it for the many children who enjoy playing here during Easter break.
“I cannot understand why anyone would think it is fun to set fire to a children’s play area.”
Locals are urged to contact the police if they have any information.
