KINGSTON university students have elected new members to lead the Union of Kingston Students and represent the student’s views for 2016 and 2017.
The winners of the Student Union election were announced at Kingston Hill’s Hannaford Bar on Friday 4 March.
Overall 1,500 students gave their vote in the election where there were 20 candidates standing for the different positions, which included four full-time Student Officers, three Student Trustees, and five NUS Delegates.
KU’s four new Student Officers, who are going to represent the four campuses for 2016/17, are Beatrice Carey (Knight’s Park), AQ Khan (Penrhyn road), Haider Chaudhry (Kingston Hill) and Patrick Joseph Tatarian (Roehampton Vale).
The five NUS delegates are Khan, Carey, Jens Christian Nielsen De Berard, Nicole Chow, and Vignesh Ayyathurai. Their role is to attend the National Union of Students National Conference and to represent the views of KU students.
KU elected three new Student Trustees: Aditya Tandon, Laila Yousofi and Jens Christian Nielsen de Berard.
New Student Officer for Knights Park and NUS Delegate Carey, said: “It felt great to win. Like hearing the song “Happy” by Pharrell for the first time.”
Her plans for Knights Park are to resolve some of the major issues students are having and create more artistic opportunities.
“Better food options, timetable issues, and another microwave for the canteen area, just to name a few of the issues. We also have so many amazingly talented people on Knights Park and it’s about time the university recognizes it,” she said.
