The Metropolitan Police Service is investigating the cause of a fire that has destroyed Chessington’s old golf clubhouse.
Six fire engines and 40 firefighters attended the blaze at the disused clubhouse on Garrison Lane on Sunday, November 22.
“The fire was discovered when a passerby noticed flames coming from the roof of the building.
“They called 999, and it was the first of 18 calls to the visible blaze,” a statement from the London Fire Brigade said.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service.”
No injuries were reported in the blaze, which took more than three hours to get under control.
Fire engines from Kingston, Surbiton, New Malden and Wimbledon attended the scene after being called at 6.18pm, with the fire in hand by 9.40pm.
A video shared on Twitter shows the clubhouse ablaze and plumes of smoke filling the air.
This is the second fire at the derelict clubhouse in less than 18 months, with part of the premises being damaged in a blaze in July 2019.
The clubhouse has been vacant since 2015.
