A new charity, dedicated to looking after nature, wildlife and heritage in South and West London launched on November 5.
Habitats & Heritage’s initiatives hope to support, protect and restore the local area and provide spaces for the community to enjoy.
Colin Cooper, CEO of Habitats & Heritage, said: “We hope everyone can take pride in their local environment and make South and West London a haven for nature, wildlife, and heritage.”
He added: “We hope to attract many new supporters and feel this an exciting and critical time to be part of the bigger and brighter future of the charity.”
Cooper described the charity’s work as even more important due to the second lockdown’s impact on mental health and wellbeing.
“As we go into another lockdown, we will have the chance to explore the local green spaces and parks, look after the wildlife in our gardens and discover hidden historical gems right on the doorstep,” he said.
Habitats & Heritage formed after the merger of two local conservation charities – the Environment Trust and the South West London Environment Network.
Based in Twickenham, they work across the London Boroughs of Richmond, Kingston, Hounslow, Wandsworth, Ealing, and Merton.
The charity offers volunteering opportunities and resources for the public to get involved with, including creating green hubs, developing wildlife corridors, working on river projects and restoring historic buildings.
They are also hosting events to engage the community such as an online children’s workshop with Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler on December 5.
