Kingston Council has paid tribute to Councillor James White, who died on November 8, with a minute’s silence at Council on Tuesday.
Mayor Patrick Codd asked the chamber to stand for a moment’s silence as a mark of respect for “firm friend” White.
Councillor White, a chartered accountant, had represented Coombe Vale ward since 2006, sat on the audit committee and the pension fund panel, and was the co-chairman of the Malden and Coombe neighbourhood committee.
Leader of Council Derek Osbourne also paid tribute to Councillor White saying: “It is sometimes quite rare that a person puts their skills and knowledge from one area into the running of council”.
Councillor White’s resignation followed the resignation of fellow Coombe Vale ward councillor Robert-John Tasker and caused a double by-election to be called in Coombe Vale. The by-election will take place on December 15.
