The British Hat Guild organised a nationwide ‘Wear a Hat Day’ on Friday 25th March to raise money and awareness for Brain Cancer research.
Bee Smith, a local miliner and member of the British Hat Guild, was tasked with organising an event for Kingston residents. She organised a ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ at the Rose Theatre where she provided a range of her hats for people to try on and sold cakes and coffees to raise money for the case.
Smith stressed the importance of this event as Brain Cancer Research only receives 1 per cent of the national cancer research funding despite killing more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other form of cancer.
