Watch: Inside the award-winning club that helps wrestlers in and out of the gym

Amir Wrestling Club helps children, teenagers and adults to get fit with freestyle wrestling. Based in Tolworth, Kingston, the club is run by former wrestler Amir Kamali, who moved to the UK to join his family and chase his dream of becoming a wrestling coach.

The club was awarded Club of the Year at the Kingston Borough Sports Award ceremony in 2024. Kamali was also awarded the Eileen Grey Award for best coach of the year in 2022.

Although Kamali is focused on teaching wrestling on the mat, he also hopes to improve the mental health and wellbeing of his students to help them on and off the mat.

He said: “What I am teaching them is how to be themselves. If they want to be a champ and be someone who is successful, they have to be different from everyone else.”

The club is open Monday-Thursday from 7-9pm. Watch the video below to hear the coach and his students describe the experience of being involved with this award winning club.
