Watch: Inside the Korean female art exhibition at Kingston Museum

Kingston Museum has celebrated the significant Korean culture locally, partnering with Korean-led art collective 4482 [SASAPARI] to host ‘K-Women: Celebrating Korean Female Artists’.

Running until 19 April 2025, and sponsored by Arts Council England and Kingston Heritage Service, the exhibition showcases work from 17 artists.

The show is split into three sections titled: A Story of Moving, Who am I? and Endless Journey, as well as a collection dedicated to the Kingston archive.

With a focus on identity, each piece expressed the challenges and emotions the artists faced in cultural adaptation.

The Kingston Courier spoke with the exhibition’s curator and three of the artists about British Korean identity, the female experience, a place between two homes, the unique space in Kingston and having your cultural heritage celebrated worldwide.

Who are 4482 [SASAPARI]?

Since 2007, 4482 [SASAPARI] have hosted opportunities for over 300 UK-based Korean artists, aiming to bridge the gap between the diverse cultures of South Korea and the UK.

Represented by the numerals ‘4482’ (the combined dialling codes of the United Kingdom, 44, and South Korea, 82), the collective celebrates artistic communication between the two countries and champions the contemporary arts of Korea.
