Surrey County Football Association is fighting discrimination in sports during this October’s Kick It Out campaign.
Kick It Out is a national project which was established in 1997 to confront discrimination and promote inclusion in football. The campaign is organised and funded by the Premier League, the Professional Footballers Association, and the Football Association.
The Kick It Out organisation says: “It is often felt that football is still lagging behind the rest of society in terms of representation and this is something we can all work towards changing.”
With the national debate on racism in football stronger than ever, Surrey County FA continues to promote awareness on a local level.
Alex Prior, Press Officer for the FA in Surrey, said, “The Surrey County FA has been committed to the Kick It Out campaign for a number of years now and has held several successful events to show our support to tackling exclusion of all forms.”
Surrey County FA kicked off this year’s awareness raising drive with a contest asking football clubs in Surrey to create posters detailing what Kick It Out means to their club. The winning club, Christ Church, wore masks of different colours before their match on the 13th of October. Their prize for winning included a trip to watch Fulham defeat Aston Villa on the 20th of October.
Next weekend, Surrey County FA teams up with Kick It Out again to host a free workshop for people who want to work in football. The workshop, called Raise Your Game, will cover topics such as coaching, management, the media and administration. It will take place on Chelsea FC’s training grounds on Friday, 2nd November at 9 am.
