Drivers faced further delays after a burst main caused considerable structural damage to the Kingston hill highway.

Thames Water remained committed to the original timeline of construction, reopening both lanes on Wood Street late on Sunday, March 11 before Monday’s rush hour traffic.

But it is reported that there are still some problems with the actual repairs to the main itself, which have delayed reinstatement of the highway.

The Kingston Hill area still faces severe delays, even though the damaged main is now repaired, the carriageway still needs major repairs.

Further disruption was caused after a 100ft lorry became jammed trying to turn a corner at 8pm on Monday, March 5.

Travellers are still advised to check travel updates on websites and local radio if they travel into Kingston.

This is not the first time Kingston travellers face traffic disruption due to underground pipe bursts.

In January 2011, Thames Water engineers spent two months repairing the damage.

Bus routes are still on diversion.
