GUN-tree robber given two and a half years

A man from Harrow was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after committing a robbery with a replica firearm, Kingston Crown Court heard.

Awhan Edani, 21, Norfolk Road in Harrow, was arrested 30 November last year and pled guilty to two counts of robbery and one count of possession of a replica firearm.

When deciding the sentence, Judge Dodgson said: “Your actions were very serious actions and you must have terrified those people.”

Mr Edani, who suffers from depression, accompanied his partner after she had arranged to purchase two iPhone mobile devices from sellers on the online classifieds website Gumtree.

Mr Edani and his partner arrived at the seller’s home in a black Nissan car. During the transaction, which took place outside the seller’s home, Mr Edani produced a ‘black handgun’, and pointed it towards them.

Mr Edani said: “Don’t move, I don’t want to shoot you. Just put the phones in the bag.”

After the victims hesitated, he said: “Put the phones in the bag. If you move I will shoot.”

Mr Edani then left the scene and later that day sold the items to a shop in Harrow for £958.

The defendant was traced by CCTV and arrested on 30th November. When interviewed, Mr Edani denied the robbery, claiming to have purchased the mobile phones for £1,050.

Mr Edani, of Iraqi descent, received two sentences of two and a half years for each of the mobile phones, and an additional sentence of 18 months for handgun possession, all of which will run concurrently.

Judge Dodgson stated that Mr Edani would be required to serve half of the sentence.
